The Tour de France pushes off from central London in a few weeks. I always take an interest in the Tour, in fact it influenced my holiday choice last year - I pedalled (most of the way) from Bordeaux to Nice. This year I'm keen to recreate the two opening stages of the race, in London and south-east England. Once again it's possible to follow the precise route via a Google Earth mash-up, so no excuses for taking any short cuts.
I posted a story last year looking at what I speculated might be the next Google Earth (the story got an unbelievable 7,500 hits). This article outlines some other viewpoints, including a merger of Second Life / Google Earth type technology.
Speaking of Second Life, STA travel claims to be the first travel company to have a base there. It outlines some of the very best places to 'visit' in Second Life, including museums and even Mayan temple ruins.
I can only tell you about the next link if you give me a special handshake. That's because it's a link to the Masonic Traveller, a blog on travel just for masons. A real holy grail of travel sites. Now I'm not sure if this is strictly a travel site, or just a journey through the concept of masonry. Certainly a journey like no other, anyway...
And finally, next time you're in Burlingame, California, be sure to visit the World's Largest Pez Dispenser at the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia. It's truly enormous. Presumably it also distributes the world's largest Pez? Lumme....does anyone else know of any completely random museums?
